“Here’s what’s happening in our neck of the woods” August 2011
A message from BJ…
On July 6th, my Peddle Boat was stolen from the yard of my mobile home at Lot #45 here at Aripeka West RV & Mobile Home Park. If anyone has information on my Peddle Boat, please let me know. I purchased my Peddle Boat new and I do have the Bill of Sale. My Peddle Boat was spotted on Aripeka Road for sale for $225 on July 15th, but unfortunately was gone before I could get the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department there to confiscate it. The theft was reported on July 6th and the Pasco County Sheriff is looking for my Peddle Boat. I have heard through the “Aripeka Grapevine” that my stolen boat was “stolen” again from the location where it was spotted on Aripeka Road.

Our first month working at Aripeka West RV and Mobile Home Park has been fun, even though we hit a few “potholes” along the way. Hope we have accomplished a few things this past month that have made Aripeka West a nicer place to live. We are currently working on the landscaping with Karl Osta, trimming shrubs, pruning trees and pressure cleaning mobile homes, concentrating on the vacant ones first (since in general they are the biggest eyesores) looking for a little more “curb appeal” for guests and residents as they drive through the park. Additionally, we have been working on the screen enclosure at the Main House by the office trying to clear it and get it ready for parties and events allowing us to enjoy ourselves without worrying about the flies and mosquitoes that also call Aripeka West home. If you have a request or a concern about anything in the park, please let us know.
Italian Night…
Saturday August 6, 2011 at 6PM Aripeka West will host Italian Night. We will be serving Spaghetti and Meat Sauce, Garlic Bread and a Salad. Please join us on the Pavilion. If you are inspired to cook something Italian to share we would love to try it, but if you don’t cook Italian, don’t worry, there will be plenty of food there for everyone. See you all on August 6th! Buon Appetito! We may have a Big Surprise in store for you at this Party!
Abundant wildlife…
We all enjoy the wildlife here in the park. We have raccoons, possums, fox, armadillos and many more, but we must remember that these are wild animals and should not be fed by humans. These animals are ready, willing and able to hunt for their own food, so letting nature take care their diet is important. If these wild animals are fed by humans, they lose their fear of people and become a nuisance animal which people will no longer enjoy. These wild animals also carry diseases, the most dangerous one is Rabies, but there are others. Additionally, they have ticks and fleas which also carry diseases, including Lyme disease. Please don’t feed the wildlife here at Aripeka West.

Our park rules are for the benefit of all who live in or visit our park. These rules apply to ALL residents and to their guests. Please obey the rules and remember you are responsible for the behavior of your guests. The biggest complaint we are receiving pertains to speeding in the park, the speed limit is 10 MPH, please watch your speed and remind your guests to do the same. Also this month we have received complaints about residents creating shortcuts to the homes of their friends by walking through the yards of other residents. In the daytime, this is annoying, but at night it can be downright scary to have uninvited guests in your yard. Please be considerate of everyone and use the field or the roads for walking.
Love the flower gardens…
There are some in the park who have flower gardens and planters around their homes. We do love to see pretty plants and flowers growing in your yards. If for some reason your planters and gardens have become overgrown and you just don’t want the upkeep, please let us know so the bed can be removed, the grass can be mowed and any weeds can be dealt with before they cause damage to your mobile home. The trees in the park are being pruned now and we are working on controlling weeds that have grown under some of the mobile homes, we hope that you have noticed the changes, even though they are subtle. If you have an eye for garden design and would like to help us design an entry garden, we would be happy to have your input. Please remember that the soil at the gates is mostly sand and rock, so we must pick hardy plants that require little water and not too much care. Any ideas?
When we mow...
During the summer, we are mowing on most days of the week, the grass and yes, the weeds just grow so fast. Please remember that we do not mow your lawn if you have clothes hanging on your clothesline or if there is lawn furniture in the yard. We certainly would not want to cause damage to either one. If we cannot mow your lawn when we are mowing in your area, we will leave a note on your door to explain. When you let us know your lawn is ready to be mowed, we will be there as soon as possible to take care of it. The public clotheslines near the laundry room in the RV Park are there for those who like to air dry their clothes, please be considerate of others wishing to use the lines and remove your clothing as soon as it is dry. Clothing should not be left on these lines over night under any circumstances.
Did someone yell FIRE…?
The Burn Ban has been lifted in Pasco County, we can now have campfires and we can burn yard clippings. We will be burning the limbs we have cut from trees in the park, so please don’t be alarmed if you see smoke in the field. We will only be burning in the daylight hours and the fire will be completely extinguished before dark. Someone will always be tending the fire with a water hose to make sure it does not burn out of the fire pit. We have permission to burn the yard debris from the Pasco County Fire Department and they have approved the location of the fire pit and told us it complies with all setbacks and codes.
Chili Cook-Off?...
Is anyone up for a Chili Cook-Off? We are thinking that a Chili Cook-Off might just be fun, when the weather cools a bit, maybe early October, what do you think? Before we decide to do this, I want to make sure we have enough people interested in entering their Special Chili. I know everyone has a secret recipe for their chili, ingredients that make it all your own, so let me know if you “are in it to win it”!
